The largest house on this list at 16,440 square feet, and one built into the mountain itself. The sellers call it Above the Clouds, and the aerial photos show why: a white estate set on a ledge of rock outcroppings, 15 acres around it, the valley falling away below.
The listing says the exterior is Vermont Danby marble, with Italian marble, sandstone and local hardwoods inside. The lower level is given over to entertaining: a cocktail bar, an 18-seat home theater, a game room with a marble fireplace, and an indoor pool and spa. For all that space there are only four bedroom suites, one of them set apart for long-term guests or staff. At $11.5 million it works out to about $700 a square foot, about a third of the rate for the new house at Spruce Peak.
