As we shuffle around our cozy living rooms, silently spewing envy-laden curses at the chirpy birds frolicking outside, winter enthusiasts are having a whale of a time on the snow-laden slopes, enjoyed not just by two-legged skiers but their fuzzy four-legged counterparts in unexpected places. Today, rejoice, for we bring you a heartwarming scoop that reads like a page from a National Lampoons The Onion script: the porcupine skier of Utah’s Alta Ski Area!
Credit for this furry find goes to the local videographer Tony Korologos (@TheGolfSpace). Tony wasn’t merely content capturing the usual glamor of skiers and snowboarders; he decided to hunt for the elusive – and less likely to demand royalties – wildlife. Behold his furry subject—Snuggles Jr., a porcupine making its way down the snowy expanse. From the video, one could almost imagine Snuggles Jr. on a parallel slalom chase, sans skis and poles. And we thought humans were the only ones desperate for an adrenaline rush.
On first glance, one might mistake it for a rogue dish-rag. However, a closer look—and Tony’s life-saving hashtag—reveals a North American Porcupine, one of the most common porcupine species in Utah, seeking its moment of downhill glory.
Could it be the Avant-ski thrill attracting Snuggles Jr.? Mere mortals can only guess. The question that rings in our minds, though, is whether these furballs are also interested in BOA boots—or if Alta would allow a porcupine on a snowboard (it doesn’t seem to have an issue with skiers!).
